DIY Honey Wraps for Cough Relief and Mucus Elimination

Honey has been hailed as a remarkable natural remedy for centuries, known for its diverse healing properties. It has been employed to address wounds, burns, ulcers, digestive issues, as well as soothe coughs and sore throats.

Guidelines issued by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and Public Health England (PHE) now advocate using honey as the primary remedy for coughs. These recommendations stem from a thorough examination of the most robust scientific evidence available.

The research has demonstrated honey’s efficacy in alleviating acute cough symptoms caused by upper respiratory tract infections. It can reduce both the frequency and severity of these symptoms. It’s important to note that this advice applies to adults and children aged 5 and above, as honey is not considered safe for children under 1 year of age.

Here’s a simple homemade remedy to help alleviate congestion and cough:

DIY Honey Wrap Remedy

You will need:

  • Organic Pure Honey
  • Gently melted Organic Coconut Oil
  • Coconut Flour
  • Gauze, Napkin, Paper Towel, or Handkerchief
  • Adhesive Medical Tape
  • Cheesecloth

Instructions:

  1. Create a paste by combining honey and coconut flour until it reaches a non-sticky consistency.
  2. Add the melted coconut oil, incorporating additional flour if necessary to achieve the desired texture.
  3. Spread the resulting paste onto your chosen material, such as a napkin or gauze.
  4. Wrap the treated material in cheesecloth.
  5. Place the wrap on your chest and secure it in place using medical tape. You can wear your shirt or pajamas over it.

For children, apply the wrap a few hours before bedtime and remove it before they go to sleep. Before applying the wrap, test a small amount of the paste on the child’s arm to check for any allergic reactions.

Adults can leave the wraps on overnight. Be aware that honey has a warming effect, and it’s normal to experience sweating while using these wraps. Relief can often be felt after the very first treatment.
